A haul truck is down. The call comes at 02:14.
Mine sites run three shifts, buy by part number from three brands, and call in the language of the shift. This is the set of systems that answers them.
What a mine buys, and how
A stopped haul truck or excavator costs its owner by the hour, so a mine's buyer calls the moment the fault is found, which is often at night and often in the language of the shift, not of the head office. The enquiry is a part number, read off a worn plate or a parts book: 6D140 filters, 235-60-35300, a Liebherr number with no dashes at all.
Then comes the RFQ: thirty to three hundred lines for the next service, as a PDF or a spreadsheet, with the same part under two brands' numbers.
What the desk does with it
- Answers the night call in the caller's language and reads the part number back digit by digit.
- Knows Komatsu's 3-3-2 shape, CAT's seven characters and Liebherr's bare digits, and guesses the brand.
- Turns a 300-line RFQ into an order straight from the spreadsheet's cells, one order per machine if asked.
- Finds the same part under another brand's number and asks every supplier who carries either.
